Nick Turner's looking for someone

Nick says:

Here's more about who I am, in the context of finding a new closest friend and companion for my life journey. If you are female, mature enough to laugh at yourself but young enough to laugh at the world, you aren't looking to start a family (but maybe you have one you've already started) and you can handle a somewhat weird, creative polymath for an intimate long-term relationship, read on...

Who am I?
I am a tech-science-art lover, software consultant / artist / tutor / counselor / mystical card reader; amazed at how fast the world is evolving these days. Looking for someone who loves the ever-changing universe as much as I do.

It seems the longer I live in this world the less I want to follow "normal" scripts. I chose not to marry or have children this time around, but there have been wonderful long-term partners. I like the life I live these days, but it would definitely be nice to have a close companion again, and I am certainly open to someone who has children of her own.

I feel that the whole human race is everyone's family. We all share the same history, species, and home planet! There is a feeling of kinship with almost everyone I meet, but it's also important to respect everyone's individuality. I fall in love easily, but I do not cling or become dependent.

Although I am a very social person in the right situation, I also spend a lot of time alone, working on projects, thinking, or just being. I'd like to spend a big part of my time with someone special who also likes alone time. A paradox? Let's be alone -- together or apart, as we both desire. If you really "get" this, email me right away! :-)

I enjoy a simple lifestyle. There is time for meditation or hiking in nature. It is good to live, breathe, and watch the world. I love my garden, my friends, good food, music, movies.

If the idea of standing perfectly still in the middle of a forest or on top of a mountain sounds good to you, please get in touch!

What do I do?
In the early 80s I was a game designer at Atari. Remember Super Breakout? That was mine. The rush lasted a minute or two, and then I left the company when I ran out of steam. After that, software consulting seemed like a natural calling. The money is good, but the work is very, very mental. I still take on technical contracts, for the high hourly rates and also because I still enjoy writing good code, but these days I do a lot more.

There is often a "money job" that (ideally!) brings in enough to pay living expenses and allow for long vacations between money jobs. For a couple of years the money job was being the plants and orchids guy at a Smith and Hawken store. In 2006 the money job was being the water gardens, bugs and ecosystems guy at Roger Reynold's Nursery. As part of the work there, I gave seminars on various gardening-related topics. Since then, the money job has been software consulting once again (yes, I'm back in the computer industry!) which brings in enough money that I can take many months off between contracts.

A great interest is what I call evolving art. That's art that forms all by itself, as a result of the laws of evolution, biology, chemistry, etc. Three examples: (1) I design, build and grow miniature ecosystems called ecopods. (The largest ecopod of all, of course, is the whole planet Earth!) (2) I also make miniature landscapes in large round trays by depositing various chemicals over a long period of time. The best one is six years old and looks like an alien planet. (3) Metaflowers: art-drawing software bots, evolved by a human through selective breeding of those that draw most beautiful or interesting designs. There are thousands of images in the collection, and more almost every day. There are lots of other kinds of evolving art, both in the real world of atoms and inside computers.

What else? The "mystical" offerings include tajalli card readings (not the same as Tarot!), crystal ball readings, aura readings, eutactic clearing (a kind of healing).

I maintain my web sites, create computer art, help my friends, and generally enjoy life.

My favorite books, movies, music, food
Books that make me think about reality in new ways. Books that challenge my beliefs. Books that make me cry. Books full of visual delights. Books of escapist fantasy. Books of hard-edged sci-fi. Books that are not books.

Movies: Same as books (above)

Music that surprises. Music I can die into. Music of reality. Music that isn't there. Music that isn't music. The best of every kind of music.

Food: Every style, every flavor, all of it. Bring it on!

I like to think about...
How the universe works, the big picture, friends, science, nature, the future, the One Being.

Software design, web design.

How amazing and beautiful it all is.

You....?

Some private confessions
I am passionate about sunsets, flowers, butterflies, huge old machines falling into ruin, natural landscapes, interstellar nebulae, mold gardens, chemistry, old decaying logs, and tons of other stuff.

Jimmy Neutron is way cool.

You should email me if:
...any or all of these:

1. You like getting wet and muddy

2. You like strange food (and other strange stuff)

3. You agree that good software is like poetry

4. Some kinds of music can make you shiver

5. Being in the universe is amazing every day
