The Phlexx, Sylissa's people, are a race of dodecapoid sentients. They have had technology, genetic arts and spirituality for more than four hundred thousand years. Their home planet orbits close around a small red dwarf star forty light years from Earth in the approximate direction of Vega.

They live submerged in bubbling, swirling hot water.
